The Real Winnie the Pooh

By Quentin (6)

A soldier bought a baby bear from a bear trapper on a train in Canada.  He had to go to war so he left the baby Winnipeg at the zoo in England.  The soldier hugged him before he left and then Winnipeg licked him goodbye.  Christopher Robin came and fed him milk.  A.A. Milne spotted him behind the fence and wrote stories about Winnipeg and Christopher Robin. Christopher Robin changed Winnipeg's name to Winnie.  After he died they made a statue of Winnie and three people came up to the statue and saw it and got their picture taken.

Crawdad Fight

by Jake (5)

My mom saw a crawdad, but I saw it first. I called my dad over. My dad caught the crawdad. I holded him a little bit. Then we let him go and he hid. Then we went home. I was scared. There were two. And they were fighting like this (the five year old narrator shows how). With their antlers or whatever they are. Pincers. They were fighting with their pincers. And they had a little tail that goes slap-slap-slap.

The Opossum

By James (5)

I was right at my plants, looking in my garden, then, when I looked at the cage, there was the opossum. I thought it was a raccoon. I went inside to tell mama, and then Mama went to go see, and it was a baby opossum.

Then I saw Mummy bringing out a book and some pieces of paper. Then I drew a picture of the opossum, but it wasn't good so I drew another one and it was a good one. Then I drew a picture of the caterpillars.

The opossum looked like a rat. It had black on it's whiskers, gray fur and white fur and it had black and white ears. It had black on it's claws and pink on and in it's mouth and red in it's mouth.

It winked at me and when I got close it opened it's mouth. It didn't hiss at me, it just opened it's mouth. It had big black eyes. It's eyes reminded me of a raccoon's eyes.

The Little Moon Spies Me

By Lorelei (aged 4)

A little moon, a little moon
Getting smaller, smaller
A little moon, a little moon
Getting bigger, bigger
It’s so fun to watch the moon
Go up and down, up and down
It’s so fun to watch the moon
Every night you go

The Garden of Fields

By Lorelei (aged 4)

A little butterfly on my window
Swishing, swashing
I sit there watching my window
And on the window
The little butterfly goes
Swishing, swashing
A whole field of butterflies was in my garden
